Weaving infrastructure, resilience and ecology into a rich waterfront experience.

Harbour Bridge Park establishes a new public landscape at the threshold between the Auckland Harbour Bridge and the Waitematā coastline. Positioned on a prominent headland, the project reframes this infrastructural edge as an accessible and ecologically enriched waterfront destination.

The design responds to the cultural significance of the site, the dramatic presence of the bridge structure and the dynamic coastal edge conditions. The headland’s layered histories and tidal ecologies inform a spatial strategy that restores connection between land and harbour while recognising its role as gateway to the urban waterfront.

Circulation patterns are recalibrated to prioritise slow pedestrian movement along the water’s edge, while vehicle access is shifted inland to reduce conflict and reclaim the foreshore. Layered terraces, planting and material transitions articulate coastal gradients, creating episodic recreational spaces for fishing, picnicking and quiet occupation. Ecological enhancement strengthens the coastal margin and reinforces resilience against marine conditions.

Harbour Bridge Park operates as gateway landscape and civic refuge -  integrating infrastructure, recreation and ecology into a cohesive waterfront system. It demonstrates how  a landscape-led approach can transform residual infrastructural edges into culturally and environmentally rich public realm.
